Low Pressure Devices

Low pressure TACT Tools are intended for low flow and low-pressure (to 15psi) laboratory applications. The 50mm² biostuds for these devices are identical to those used in the ultra-high pressure TACT Tools so that field-acquired organisms may be processed in the lab without the need to disrupt or co-culture biofilms.

Large area low- and mid-pressure biofilm devices are available to contain circular flanged biostuds 20mm in diameter or 25mm in diameter (corresponding to individual biostud surface areas of 315mm² and 490mm² respectively). The design of these manifolds is similar to that of the monolithic mid- and high-pressure devices described on the High & Medium Pressure page.

As with all Tyler biofilm devices, biostuds can be supplied in virtually any material and special surface finishes and hybrid biostuds are also available.

For samples of even larger area, biostuds may be contained in cassettes rather than in individual ports. This permits the use of awkwardly-shaped substrates such as glass cover slips or rectangular metal coupons. Virtually any number of cassettes, each holding from 1 to 10 individual coupons of specified size, may be accommodated (in the standard examples below there are 2 cassettes, each holding 5 coupons measuring 19mm x 38mm with surface areas of 720mm²).
